Sounds like carmen has some issues. I have the VX-7r, and i for one can vouch at its brilliance. I wholeheartedly agree with everything said in the review! hi 5 Lars!

Sounds like you want an FT-817 in a hand held package. I doubt you'll find it, but happy hunting.

If you're looking for an HT, generally speaking you want a 2m/70cm radio. Possibly with 1.25M for good measure.

2M and 70CM doesn't have to be about talking to local geeks on the drive to work.

it would be the handheld to end handhelds if it could transmit 5 watts down to 160m, and a USB2 link to grab raw PCM of 455khz of IF bandwidth. and support SSB (Without an attached computer) ike the vr-500 does (although that one has some firmware bugs wrt tuning i think. maths a bit of sometimes the pitch quantizes off as well. or maybe mine has a blown resistor or something)

then you could just plug it into an amp when you wanted high power HF phone, plug it into a PC for PSK, etc.

as it is, its a stupid ass 2meter HT. i dont need to chat to the local geeks that im driving to work, but thats me
